General Thoughts:

Erdinger Dünkel is a brilliant beer, deep full flavours. This beer has a deep roasted malt taste, with hints of slight coffee and chocolate. This beer starts off with a bitter note, which slowly moves across the tongue and develops into a nice sweetness. This is also a really smooth beer, with very little carbonation, making it a easy drinking beer. Erdinger Dünkel is also a very refreshing beer, that has a moreish quality to it, making you want to go back for more and more, which to me is a great quality in a beer. This is also a bottle conditioned wheat beer, so there will be a slight sediment in the bottom of the bottle. This is a really delicious beer, that I would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys a deep, full flavoured beer, with a moreish, warming quality to it. I really enjoyed this beer and would recommend people give it a try.

Howling Gale Ale !!!

Hey Everyone, Apologies for no post yesterday it was Christmas Meal Day, but i'm back today with beer 3 of 12 beers of Christmas. Today's beer is not strictly a seasonal beer, however I feel it really fits the bill for Christmas. I hope you all enjoy !!!

General Thoughts:

Howling Gale Ale is a very nice, deep, full flavoured beer. This beer has a great warming quality to it, which is why I feel it is perfect as a winter / Christmas beer. The main thing I look for in seasonal beer, is its deep warming quality, something that makes you feel warm in the cold nights, this beer hits that spot. This is also a very refreshing beer, which will make you want to drink more and more of it, which is always a positive. There is an overall nice taste of hops to this beer also which to me is fundamental. Howling Gale Ale has a slight bitter after taste, coming in from the hops, this makes for a perfect drink in my eyes. On the whole Howling Gale Ale is a really refreshing, deep, full flavored beer, with all the winter qualities I look for in a seasonal, winter beer. I really cannot emphasise enough how impressed I am with the Eight Degrees Brewery. I have not had one beer that I do not like from them, but the thing that stands out most about this brewery is the fact that all of their beers are different, yet all have this deep flavour to them. The Eight Degrees brewery is a real favourite of mine and I really recommend them highly. The only downside of this beer for me is that it doesn't come in a 500ml bottle.

General Thoughts:

SA Gold is a very refreshing, really light beer. This beer has a really nice hops taste to it, not overpowering in any way, nice and mellow on the palette. This beer has medium carbonation, which makes it nicely refreshing without being over gaseous. This beer goes from a bitter taste to a slight sweetness. There is a slight bitter after taste, which leaves you wanting more, which for me is a great thing and great characteristic in a beer. This is a very refreshing beer and pleasant drinking beer, one that you could drink a good few of without feeling over bloated and also still want to go back for more. SA Gold has a really nice citrus note to it also, which helps with its refreshing quality. This beer is also not overpowering in alcohol, which helps with its smooth, mellow flavour. This beer isn't really deep in flavour, however the flavour it does has is delicious. On the whole a very nice, refreshing beer that will leave you wanting more.

Christmas Countdown - Gift Ideas !!!

Hey Everyone, so were back to the Christmas Countdown, instead of a beer review, today's post is looking at gift ideas. Today's post is focusing on one gift in particular, a Christmas Beer Hamper. This one comes from the Magpie Brewery : ) !!!

The Hamper

These great hampers are filled to the brim with a whole variety of goodies from the Magpie Brewery.

The Magpie hampers make for a great Christmas present to anyone out there that is a lover of beer. Not only do you get some great beer but also other beer related products that will just complete the package.


Everything that you get in the hamper is hand crafted by the Magpie brewery themselves, which just puts that personal touch to the hamper. I also think this helps make the gift so much more special as you know a lot of love and care has gone into this product. The Magpie Brewery where possible like to use all local ingredients, which are close by the brewery itself. A lot of the stuff is home grown in their own back garden as well as using their own free range eggs where possible in their range of cake, from their own chickens. I have suggested this as a Christmas Countdown beer gift as I feel you are getting to try a great breweries beer as well as other great products that they are producing. But the main thing is that you are getting that personal touch and getting a gift for someone that has had a lot of time and love put into it, which will make the giving of it the more sweeter. This for me is a perfect gift for all of those beer lovers out there and I would highly recommend getting onto the website and getting your hands on one of these. Clotworthy Dobbin

General Thoughts:

Clotworthy Dobbin is a really strong chocolate tasting beer, smooth, refreshing and really deep in flavour. This beer has the qualities of a Porter, however it is a lot lighter than you would get from a Porter. This was one of the surprising things for me, I really wasn't expecting a beer with the dark, rich qualities to be as light as this beer is. This beer is really rich and deep in roasted malt flavours, giving it that chocolate taste. Clotworthy Dobbin is a really interesting beer for me and one that I would recommend to everyone as a nice winter beer. The reason I say a winter beer is because it has that warming quality that I look for in a winter beer, something that makes you feel warm inside. This beer has very little carbonation, making it smooth and rich. I was blown away by the taste of chocolate and this makes it a really interesting drink. I would definitely advise giving this beer a try.

Sanity Claus

General Thoughts:

Sanity Claus is a very light, refreshing beer from the Whitewater Brewery. This is a beer that has a slight sweetness to it as well as a fruity quality. It is a very pleasant beer with a nice subtle flavouring to it. This beer is not overpowering in bitterness or alcohol which makes it a nice mellow beer. Sanity Claus isn't very deep in flavour for what I would class as a Christmas beer. When I think of a Christmas / Seasonal beer I think of a beer that is packed full of deep flavour and has a spice note to it, giving it a warming quality. Unfortunately this beer doesn't have those qualities, however this doesn't make it a bad beer at all, just not what I look for in a Christmas beer, but would still recommend it as a good beer. On the whole I think this is a nice, refreshing beer that would make you happy when drinking it, however if your looking for a deep, full flavoured beer with Christmas spicing and flavours then this isn't the beer for you.
