Sunburnt Irish Red - Happy Australia Day !!!

Hey Everyone, Happy Australia Day, I didn't have a chance to go and grab a great Australian Beer for today (to which there are a few), however today's beer review is a great beer and one that you can enjoy all the same on Australia Day, Hope you Enjoy !!!

Beer Name:
Sunburnt Irish Red
Brewery:
Eight Degrees
Brewed and Bottled:
Eight Degrees Brewing
Company LTD,
Dublin Road,
Mitchelstown,
Ireland

Alcoholic Percentage:
5.0% Vol
Measure:
330ml
Taste:
Strong Hops, Slight Citrus, Refreshing, Deep, Full Flavoured
Colour:
Light Brown, Slight Cloudiness, Red Tint
Odour:
Slight Hops, Slight Citrus

General Thoughts:
Sunburnt Irish Red is a great tasting beer, with its deep, full flavour. There is a strong hops flavour to this beer, with a slight hint of citrus coming from the hops varieties that have been used in the beer. This slight citrus note gives this beer a great, refreshing feel and flavour which makes it a pleasure to drink. This beer really packs a punch in flavour, more so than I was expecting from an Irish Red beer, the flavours are deep and well rounded, not overly bitter or overly sweet, but delivers a perfectly balanced, well rounded beer. Sunburnt Irish Red also has a moreish quality to it making you want another as soon as you have finished the one in your hand. This to me is a great quality in a beer, this beer has little carbonation, which means that you don't get overly bloated on it and can enjoy one after another. This is a great, well balanced, full flavoured beer, that can be enjoyed at any time of the year, be it in the cold winter months when your looking for something deep and full of flavour, or the summer months when your looking for something refreshing in the hot sun. I was really impressed with this beer and would highly recommend giving it a try. Another great tasting beer from the Eight Degrees Brewery.

General Thoughts:
Barefoot Bohemian is a very interesting beer, with is really light characteristics. This is a really refreshing, smooth beer that is really delicate in flavour. There is little carbonation to this beer, but an overall well balanced flavour. There is a slight bitterness to this beer from the hops, however not very strong compared to more hop heavy beers, there is also a slight sweetness to this beer, which really helps to balance out the beer and also to balance that bitterness from the hops, creating a nice flavour, delicate beer. Barefoot Bohemian also has a citrus quality to it, there is a underlying flavour of lemon which I find makes the beer really refreshing. This is a beer that you could keep going back to for more and more as it is so light and refreshing. This beer was really different to what I was expecting, I wasn't expecting this beer to really stand out in any way, however I should have known better coming from the Eight Degrees Brewery. On the whole this is a really nice beer, light in flavour, with a real refreshing, citrus feel to it. I would definitely recommend this beer. Another great beer from the Eight Degrees Brewery.

Howling Gale Ale !!!

Hey Everyone, Apologies for no post yesterday it was Christmas Meal Day, but i'm back today with beer 3 of 12 beers of Christmas. Today's beer is not strictly a seasonal beer, however I feel it really fits the bill for Christmas. I hope you all enjoy !!!

Beer Name:
Howling Gale Ale
Brewery:
Eight Degrees Brewing
Brewed and Bottled:
Eight Degrees Brewing Company,
Dublin Road,
Mitchelstown,
Ireland

Alcoholic Percentage:
5.0% Vol
Measure:
330ml
Taste:
Slight Bitterness, Hops, Full Flavoured, Refreshing
Colour:
Light Orange, Golden
Odour:
Slight Hops

General Thoughts:
Howling Gale Ale is a very nice, deep, full flavoured beer. This beer has a great warming quality to it, which is why I feel it is perfect as a winter / Christmas beer. The main thing I look for in seasonal beer, is its deep warming quality, something that makes you feel warm in the cold nights, this beer hits that spot. This is also a very refreshing beer, which will make you want to drink more and more of it, which is always a positive. There is an overall nice taste of hops to this beer also which to me is fundamental. Howling Gale Ale has a slight bitter after taste, coming in from the hops, this makes for a perfect drink in my eyes. On the whole Howling Gale Ale is a really refreshing, deep, full flavored beer, with all the winter qualities I look for in a seasonal, winter beer. I really cannot emphasise enough how impressed I am with the Eight Degrees Brewery. I have not had one beer that I do not like from them, but the thing that stands out most about this brewery is the fact that all of their beers are different, yet all have this deep flavour to them. The Eight Degrees brewery is a real favourite of mine and I really recommend them highly. The only downside of this beer for me is that it doesn't come in a 500ml bottle.

A Winters Ale

Hey Everyone, so here is the first Christmas Countdown Post.
I thought I would start off with a nice Christmas Beer Review. Winter is one of my favourite times for beer as breweries get creative and produce some amazing deep, full flavoured beers. It is also a time when the breweries add extra spices and interesting flavours to the beers.

The first beer in the Twelve Beers of Christmas is from the Eight Degrees Brewery. I hope you enjoy : ) !!!

Beer Name:
A Winters Ale
Brewery:
Eight Degrees
Brewed and Bottled:
Eight Degrees Brewing
Company LTD,
Dublin Road,
Mitchelstown,
Ireland

Alcoholic Percentage:
7.0% Vol
Measure:
330ml
Taste:
Cinnamon, Smooth, Slight Bitterness, Sweet, Mulled Spices, Refreshing
Colour:
Reddy, Light Brown
Odour:
Cinnamon, Mixed Spices

General Thoughts:
A Winters Ale is a very interesting beer, smooth and full flavoured. The first thing that you get with this beer is a taste of cinnamon. If you are not a fan of Cinnamon, then this is not a beer for you as it is quite a prominent flavour of the beer. Once you get passed the cinnamon it moves on to a more rounded mulled spice flavour. It has a kind of mulled wine flavour to it, something that is iconic with Christmas. This is also a very refreshing beer, which surprisingly doesn't taste overly alcoholic considering its 7% ABV strength. A Winters Ale is a very nice beer that is very seasonal and fits perfectly in the Winter beer theme. This beer is very different to what I was expecting. I was expecting a much heavier beer and an overpowering alcoholic taste due to its strength, but it really is the opposite, light and refreshing. This beer is also well balanced and not over spiced. I felt this was a perfect beer to start the 12 beers of Christmas off with as it to me, sums up all the flavours of Christmas and I would highly recommend this beer to all.

Price:
€2 - €4 (Average Price, Probus Wines & Spirits 23/11/12)

General Thoughts:
KnockMealDown Porter is a great tasting, smooth beer. This beer is really rich and full of flavour. This deep beer has a resounding roasted coffee note, with a slight chocolate taste.
